lwrc rifles 556

Lwrc Rifles 556 - Operating with 100% reliability during testing, demonstrating an incredibly high level of skill in all terrains, and a level of craftsmanship unmatched, my LWRC may just raise the bar for direct-action rifles.

One of the first serious piston ARs I used was the LWRCI. The early 10.5 inch head was strong, reliable and accurate (strange at the time). Early AR barrels were generally spotty, especially when suppressed. Gaze, they were dirty, rude and noisy. The LWRCI was one of the strongest and most robust I have ever seen or used. After years of heavy use, it was replaced with an SPC 6.8, the start of a whole new adventure. LWRCI fixed this as well, addressing the magazine issue presented by the larger 6.8 SPC case. Using both standard and short barrel versions, they are completely reliable. Being able to test the short-barreled version of the Individual Carbine–PSD (Personal Security Detail) chambered in 5.56 NATO reminded me how well LWRCI rifles perform. But patrol rifles with longer barrels have less need for a piston design and the costs that go with it. For years, customers asked LWRCI to build a direct gas AR action of the same quality, and finally they did in the LWRCI-DI 556.

My LWRC was one of the first to come out with fully ambidextrous controls and they are all present on the DI.

Piston guns are great; they do things that most DI guns simply won't do. Shorter AR pistons work better and handle suppression more easily. Unfortunately, they are expensive, can be heavy, and add some parts and complexity. Most applications simply do not need either a short barrel or a suppressor. Most civilian applications (LE or otherwise) are easily met with a 16 inch barrel using a simple direct propellant fuel system. Simplicity in the field is critical, and nothing meets that need like a well-built AR using a tried-and-true direct-action gas system. The majority of AR used today remains direct impact and probably always will be.

This rifle starts with LWRCI's proven "double forged" forged receiver. Forged from 7075 aluminum, they are among the strongest you can buy, with great attention to detail, consistent manufacturing and uniform construction. Equipped with controls for both hands and a large trigger guard, they are very suitable for use in all conditions. Magpul's MOE rubber grip provides comfortable control. Stock LWRCI compact holding LWRCI-DI 556 can be used with plate carriers or other work equipment. The internals are nice specs including the trigger.

The nest in the head has a cold hammer forged 1:7" twisted barrel using cut M4 and a NATO chamber 5.56mm. Crimped for less weight and improved cooling, it is covered with an A2-style flame retardant. Made of steel 41V45. It is stress relieved and coated with NiCorr for durability and corrosion resistance. Fuel is delivered to the advanced DI bolt retaining group using a NiCorr coated fuel tube.

Covering the barrel is a 15-inch rail developed specifically for the DI rifle. Tightly attached to the receiver, it keeps the barrel free floating. Rails can be attached at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. The continuous top rail makes it easy to improve the look and add accessories. LWRCI rails are stiff and thin, adding less to the overall diameter and allowing you to add equipment without bulk. Rail panels are available along with a front corner handle. Two rails are included, a short for light and an angle rail that includes a QD sling cup and bolt side cover. There is also a QD sling cup on the back of the English foregrip. Each rifle ships with one Magpul 30-round PMAG.

Just as the red dot sight has almost supplanted iron sights in working AR, low power optics are starting to gain popularity. The ability to identify your threat or target is imperative, and optics make this exponentially easier. Add age to the equation and it becomes more profitable. While I can still hit targets at 300 yards with a red dot, it is easier with a low power variable optic. Trijicon's Accupoint is one of the most robust, reliable and simple systems available. Using a Mil-Dot reticle and fiber optic center dot, the Accupoint 1-6x24mm is equally at home from CQB out to 300 meters. Six power is enough for most fights with this carbine, facilitating proper target identification and increasing accuracy. Using a 30mm tube, it is light, short and very comfortable. It is mounted in an American Defense Manufacturing AD-Recon cantilever mount. Have used them for years, they are solid, light, easy to use and easy to set up. At a reasonable price, they provide an option for service or professional guns that won't break the bank.
