Aircraft Sun Shades - Large canvas structures are used by military bases and fixed base operators (FBOs) at airports across the country because of the convenience and lower costs they offer compared to metal T. hangars. We can quickly design and build an aircraft hangar or shelter for your aircraft and we can install it on any foundation, even asphalt. And from the mobile design, our hangers and umbrellas can be placed if needed. For military purposes, our hangars and sunsheds help ensure mission readiness.
Big Top awnings can save money and man hours - a recent study showed that 18 solar panels cost less than a single metal hangar. And it is much faster to build. Maintenance can be done directly in the flight line while protecting the aircraft and personnel.
Aircraft Sun Shades
Perhaps the primary benefit of our fabric construction is the higher level of protection it provides for your aircraft and crew. Our tents will be.

Also, your crew will be able to work in comfort under the factory hull, which will maintain an indoor temperature that is, on average, 15 degrees colder in the summer and warmer than the outside sky in the winter. Plus, our devices are transparent and in plenty of sunlight for your crew to work without the need for electric lighting, saving you money on energy costs.
Big Top fabric structures can be designed in almost any size. So whether you need a simple hangar for a single aircraft or a large hangar for an entire fleet, we can accommodate it. And for faith-based organizations, since they can be registered with the IRS tool, it is also possible to get tax benefits with our hangars and awnings.
If you are an FBO customer and need aircraft protection sheds or sunshades, contact Big Top Fabric Structures today for more information. The Big Top has been certified by USAACE to be compliant with the USAF Sun Shade Administration (AFSM), Air Force Directive (AFI) and IBC, and our fabric constructions are Berry Amendment compliant for military use. The Powertech and Powertech 2 feature a dual-rail carrying system to develop (from left to right) a steep, translucent shade panel with approximately 50 percent light diffusion and a nearly 100 percent opaque black shade.
Aerospace Technologies Group (ATG) takes aircraft window technology to a new level. This Boca Raton, Florida company (Booth #995) is promoting its line of window tinting systems to the business developer. The line includes Powertech electromechanical shade and rail systems, Powertech 2 and the latest product known as Panacea, which adds the fourth generation of electromechanical technology.

The Powertech and Powertech 2 are both in production, with the Powertech 2 being an upgrade that's "faster, quieter and more hands-free to control," according to the company. There are variants of each development in different sizes for six different OEM aircraft, from the HondaJet to the Bombardier Global 7000 and 8000. Modular System 2 is being developed for the Airbus A318, A319 and A321 series and their ACJ executive versions, as well as the then Boeing Business Jet series.
ATG currently supplies both Airbus and Boeing with their previous generations for commercial applications: Powertech NG for the Airbus A380 and Ambiance Shading System for the Boeing 777. These also apply to their respective executive aircraft types.
The Powertech and Powertech 2 feature a dual-rail mount to develop a translucent shade palette with approximately 50 percent light diffusion and nearly 100 percent shade black. Page assemblies are made from ultra-lightweight carbon fiber in a manufacturing technique called "pultrusion" to ensure precise tolerances and high strength. The single entry system allows for a wider spacer hood and all parts are housed within a slim frame no more than 1 inch thick. It makes the installation flexible between the interface between the airframe and the inner panels. ATG claims that their products are 20 to 30 percent lighter than competing aircraft window shades.
The company's President and CEO Simon Kay said that the most important thing is reliability and ease of maintenance. He confirmed that all shades of ATG are useful and interchangeable. The Powertech 3 is designed to simply snap off and replace any perimeter frame, inner case containing pop-up shade and hinge mechanism in seconds. But he added that he only needed the tools, "we all have X numbers available at all times."
Just Plane Shades
In a demonstration, Kai used just his fingers, pulled the window casing around, and easily grabbed the Powertech window tint cassette unit and replaced it in less than 30 seconds. In fact, he further explained, the modular design allows for super-quick replacement of components, from the controller to the motor to the individual shaders. Even the most complex maintenance work takes about two minutes, Kay said.
Taking the show even further, Kay pulled out a Powertech shader unit, hooked it up to an external power source and ran the shade up and down, twisted it, draped it onto the board and pressed the acrylic veneer against the shade. Which did not disappoint even under. "It's a very difficult case," Kai said with a wry smile. “Any window shade has to work all the time, all the time, even with the latest changes in temperature and the cabin resilience to normal pressure.”
Kay claims the reliability of the ATG shades is worth more than the typical manual shade. As an option for a few customers, ATG offers a hand-hinged shade called Tranquility, but it doesn't actively promote the product. "It's mainly about power," he said. “Nobody really wants to lug around a cabin door or manually close 28 windows.”
But the highlight of the NBAA ATG show is the panacea. Dual shades operate the same as on the Powertech and Powertech 2 products, the main difference being the variable electrochromic tint lens that remains clear until an electrical charge is introduced, darkening the window. The degree to which it overwhelms depends on the amount of current applied. The transmission time of the electric shadow is about 30 seconds. The system allows occupants to lock operation at any level of light blocking, the unit requires no continuous power to keep it dark or bright. It also shows no color change as it goes through the process of transmitting between 70 percent and 15 percent of the light.

The idea behind the ATG product line is not only shades that take a cabin from light to dark and back again, but also decorative window treatments that control natural light and feature cellular, sheer, sheer and completely opaque shade fabrics. ATG ghosts come in 12 standard colors but with a two-week lead time, the company can also supply custom colored shades.
Last year, even as its major R&D efforts continued, ATG opened a new 63,000-square-foot facility in Boca Raton, Florida, of which 40,000 square feet is dedicated to manufacturing. According to Kay, the plant has more than 125 employees and is capable of producing up to 30,000 shading systems per year. In support of its product lines, the company offers 24/7 technical support and a product support hotline, four-hour AOG support, and a 24-hour, seven-day express shipping policy. Three Specialty Field Agents are located in Little Rock, Ark. Savannah, JA; Lawton in publicity. Service and support facilities (workshops and testing) are located in eight cities around the world, from Singapore to Dubai to West Palm Beach.
Although the airline industry was hit hard by the recession, ATG has weathered the hard times well. According to Kay, revenue in 2011 more than doubled from 2010 and revenue forecasts for 2012 are expected to be 30 percent higher than in 2011. Additionally, with new aircraft entering service over the next several years with ATG shades as standard or optional ; Kai looks like a growth in 2013 and progressing.
At the NBAA, the Shadow Powertech ATG system installed on the Hawker Beechcraft 800XP can be seen at the static line. s *
